KALAKAD MUNDANTHURAI TIGER CONSERVATION FOUNDATION (KMTCF)

The Kalakad Mundanthurai Tiger Conservation Foundation (KMTCF) was established on 25.03.2010 and registered under Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act 1975 focusing the management of Kalakad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve for conservation of biodiversity, protection, habitat improvement, research and training, environmental education, eco development and eco tourism over an area of 895 Sq.Km notified as critical Tiger Habitats along with the 706 sq.km of notified buffer area.

Objectives

As per the Deed of Trust the following are the prime objectives of the KMTCF.

To conserve the valuable biodiversity and the natural resources of Kalakad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve for posterity.
Protection of Tiger and its co-predators and improvement of its prey base in the Kalakad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve.
To reduce biological interference and reducing the bio-degradation through Eco-development programmes.
To improve livelihood options of the Forest dependents.
To integrate community development effects with natural resources management.
To promote awareness among the local people regarding conservation.
To regulate eco-tourism in and around the Tiger Reserve.
To facilitate creation and maintenance of assets.

Governing Body

The Governing body is the overall control of the Foundation. Formed under the Chairmanship of the Honorable Minister of Forests Tamil Nadu the Principal Secretary to Government, Environment and Forests department is the Vice President of the body and 15 other members including the members of the State Legislature Assembly representing the constituencies of Ambasamudram, Nanguneri, Radhapuram and Alangulam are the members of the body.So far Six Governing Body meetings had been conducted.

Executive Committee

The affairs of the Foundation administered and subject to the rules and regulations and orders of the Foundation by an Executive Committee The Chief Conservator of Forests and Field Director is the Chairperson of the Executive Committee which has 6 other members. The Executive Committee meets every month and 109 meetings had been conducted up to 06/2019.

Administration

For efficient implementation of various activities and programmes of the Kalakad Mundanthurai Tiger conservation foundation in a mission mode under the directions and guidance of the Executive Director the following staff on contract basis are being engaged

Activities Of The KMTCF

Provision expenditures for anti-poaching camps are being met out from the foundation funds

Field kits are supplied to the anti-poaching watchers every year

Improvement and maintenance of rest houses

For the benefit of visiting public improvement works, approach road to tourist places, barricades

Tourist places are kept clean by engaging eco sanitary watchers

Awareness boards are erected in important places
